Illinois passes Lemade Stand Law for Ages Under 16 |

Nearly 300 new laws will take effect in Illinois at the start of 2023 and here is another example of how ridiculous laws get and what we are paying our state legislators to worry about. Illinois Senate Bill 119: Let Kids Be Kids, effective Jan. 1, 2022. The measure passed unanimously and allows a lemonade stand to be operated by a person under 16 without regulation and without having to get a food permit from local public health officials. The law stemmed from an instance where a lemonade stand was shut down because the child had not obtained the required permit for the stand. It is not the fact that they passed this law, it is the fact that they had to. Even children are affected by over regulation of businesses.
