Illinois Senate Bill 119: Let Kids Be Kids, effective Jan. 1, 2022. The measure passed unanimously and allows a lemonade stand to be operated by a person under 16 without regulation and without having to get a food permit from local public health officials.

The law stemmed from an instance where a lemonade stand was shut down because the child had not obtained the required permit for the stand.

It is not the fact that they passed this law, it is the fact that they had to.

Even children are affected by over regulation of businesses. It has become almost impossible to start and run a small business in America in 2023. The cost of compliance is usually more than anyone can afford.

So without getting investors and starting a huge corporation from day one, is the American dream lost in this decade of over regulation?
